PARENTING:
PART 2
Many truths are
accepted either passively on faith or when imposed by the power of others.
It is enlightening to question any truth; and allow such a query to
either confirm its efficacy in your life or dispel it. By doing so you
foster faith in yourself and reclaim your power. |

Most parents want the best for their children. The expectations about what is best are almost always determined by ego and society. They both tend to be self-serving. This myopic view obscures the spiritual mission and needs of children and that of the parents in relation to their children. Typically the accepted social measures for what is best are limited to the areas of physical development and intellectual growth. The "failure" of children to meet such expectations can hurl parents into states of extreme anxiety. The child becomes anxious about the parents' unrest and eventually about what he is conditioned to recognize as his own shortcomings. Our society is highly competitive, fast paced and money driven. Children who cannot keep up are shunned and marginalized. Pressured by the expressed fear of some parents and a few professionals, governments have been applying token resources to manage the issue. As a result, the shunning and marginalization have become institutionalized; and this is accepted by most as an effective way of handling the "problem". Through this effort, some of the children labeled as "special needs" can become "functioning" (gainfully employed) members of society, while remaining discriminated against socially in many other respects. The inability of institutions, such as schools, to ameliorate the situation is the result of the mandates imposed on them and their inability to perceive all children as spiritually equal. Society has not yet evolved to the extent that it recognizes spiritual equality. It remains a hierarchical system that is based on individual and group power of a physical and intellectual nature. As long as people remain obsessed with the need to have power over others, rather than share power with others, differences among people will be accentuated. As well, society will remain limited in its vision because individuals will be made to feel alienated from it and separated from others. There exists equality among people in respect to the reason we are all having this earthly experience; but it has been long forgot by many. What really matters in life is to rediscover this meaning through conscious acts of fulfillment. All other purposes are transitory and result from ego-based fear. As long as fear is an integral part of our lives it determines what we expect from our children. Then, what children come to expect for themselves will consequently be based on fear. In order to move into an alternate reality based on true spiritual equality, parents need to be aware about the role fear and its sequlae play in our lives. We can then begin to eliminate judgment, comparison and competition from our parenting practices. Doing so will prevent fear from misguiding children, foster true equality among people and bring awareness about our greater mission as spiritual beings in physical form. What children require most is a safe environment in which they can self-fulfill, according to their own determination. Parents need to be vigilant about not imposing their ego driven expectations on their children. They also need to listen to their children's communications spirit to spirit. I recently became involved with a new organization called The Whole Child Network, CO-founded by two sincerely caring ladies: Kelly Konstantapoulos and Angela Sims. This fledging organization's purpose is to raise awareness by disseminating information about sensitive young people and supporting them. It holds great promise not only because of its intentions; but also because its growing membership is made up of parents, educators, health care professionals and business people. I encourage you to visit their website www.meetup.com/Whole-Child-Network/ If you are drawn to it, consider becoming involved. |

| Remember you are ultimately
responsible for your health. When in doubt consult with a medical authority
you trust to help you make decisions about the care of your body.
There is also some concern being expressed among interested groups around the world that this vaccination will be made mandatory this coming fall. You may be interested in doing a web search about this yourself. Frank Vircillo |
